WELCOME TO THE GUILD OF ANCIENT GASSERS
A
Chronicle of the the Propane Industry
On March 24, 1954 reference was made in a news article of
the day that as the result of an industry old-timer's party
held at the national convention of the Liquefied Petroleum
Gas Association's annual meeting in 1953 anew organization
known as "The Order of Ancient Gassers" was founded.
Historically, the association was born in Des Moines, Iowa,
in a discussion between Frank Carpenter, Lee Rasmussen and
Charles Russell. Subsequently a group had its first
meeting in the spring of 1953 during the LPGA National
Convention in Chicago.
The organization was founded to advance friendship and
fellowship among the personnel of the liquefied petroleum
gas industry who have contributed to the industry's progress
and who have been connected with the industry over a
substantial number of years. The organization also
provides an invaluable venue for opportunities for reunion
among it's members.
This website is a natural outgrowth of these original goals
in today's internet society. Through this website, we
are striving to chronicle the rich history of our industry,
preserving the contributions of the visionaries of our
industry, including Walter Snelling, Emerson Thomas, Mark
Anton, Bill Clark, Milford Therrell, and others, as well as
the invaluable contributions to the industry of such
founding companies as Phillips Petroleum, Suburban Propane,
Bastian-Blessing, and of course American Gasol.
As time goes by, much of the artifacts and verbal history of
our industry's past have begun to disappear -- lost forever.
We gratefully acknowledge the financial and other
contributions of our underwriters without whose help this
effort of historical preservation would not be possible. |
